What a 10KB Image Budget Actually Buys
10KB is close to the floor of what a recognisable photograph can occupy. At this budget you are working with roughly the same amount of data as a paragraph of formatted text, so something has to give — either the pixel dimensions drop substantially, or the compression becomes visible as softness and blocking around detailed areas.
